Drew is an incredible young man who endured a journey that is all too common for young people today. Fortunately, he was given good reason to believe. He has become a close friend! He has a powerful story that I hope you will read and share. For those in ministry who are not learning how to defend the Christian faith as 1 Peter 3:15 mandates, I hope this will serve to inspire you. For those who are in the midst of doubt, I pray you will follow in Drew's footsteps.
My life was filled with doubters
Going as far back as I remember, I was a "Christian." I never seemed to question it, I just had faith. Becoming a teenager, I seemed to attract the wrong crowd. My girlfriend at the time was an atheist. My life was filled with doubters. I started to question Christianity, and why I believed it. I ended up giving it up completely and just quitting with religion. I didn’t want to put my faith into something I couldn’t see, nor prove.
Life had no purpose
This reflected into my life, and I suffered with serious depression, due to feeling like life had no purpose. My relationships didn’t seem to work, which in part was due to conflicting interests. It finally came to a head when my ex-girlfriend and I broke up over religion. This started me down a path of seeking who God really was. My mom went to Center of Hope Church, and she suggested I talk to an apologist, Braxton Hunter, about these doubts. We met for lunch at a local Mexican restaraunt, and that’s when my life really changed for the better.
I was baffled at how much evidence there really is
The first argument for God's existence he taught me was a cosmological argument, which in my opinion, basically declares that there is a God. We continued meeting and discussing God, and the truth about Jesus. I was baffled at how much evidence there really is. No one had ever talked to me about Christian apologetics. It surprised me to hear that there were people out there that are trying to give evidence for God’s existence, and who Jesus was. I didn’t fully accept all that we talked about right away, but that was due to my anger with God about all that had happened in my life.
I finally found a purpose
I ended up working at Trinity Theological Seminary, and meeting some of the most incredible Christians. I hadn’t felt that loved for a long time. I finally found a purpose with apologetics. It makes sense. The biggest impact it had on my life was with my faith. It is finally starting to rebuild. Apologetics made me took a second look at what religion was, and why Christianity is worth believing!
